BE Education

01/31/2009 2:49 AM

Hello sir,

In INDIA BE education is not so good,,it should restructured to pratical oriented as like that of MEDICAL....students are acquiring only theortical knowledge and not pratical..if they got 6 months industry training while on their course duration it is better for them to get job and same time easy to choose their field....live subjects should only be included to their curriculum ...pls reply to this

Regards,

Engineer

Hi Guest,

If you say BE (Bachelor of Engineering education ) in India is not good. I do not agree. You cannot make such a blanket statement. It depends on the University and College in which one study engineering, that makes the difference. You go through the Syllabus of all reputed Universities in India ,for the past 50 years you will find that it is being improved and updated with the change in technology. It is not stagnant but there is continued improvement. But I do not say that the students passing out are coming up to their expectation. There are three important reasons for that .

First students who join engineering under pressure of their parents are not sincere to learn the subject . They only want a pass with high percentage of marks and get in to a campus selection through shortcuts provided by so called private coaching institutes who provide them with capsules that enable them to crack the examination and even provide project reports even without doing anything and knowing a word of what is written in the Project Report that is submitted to the University .

Second the lecturers/ teaching staff are insincere to their job. They do not even bother to check the progress of the students or their project works even after receiving huge salary.

Third some colleges are managed by those who make education a business ( with political or bureaucratic connections ) They do not provide basic necessities of students , good teaching staff or Labs for students .

Whom do you blame for that ?The university, the teaching staff , the college facilities, the job providers who cannot gauge the real talent but gauge them with some standard Performa made by management pundits who understand very little engineering, or the students them self who are direction less ? I will tell my real life experience.

We used to provide Industrial training facility to Engineering students on regular basis from different colleges but mostly from same university. Two months vacation training for third year students and one year training for ( limited seats) BE passed out students. I was closely observing their project and progress . Almost 40 % of the trainees were very sincere and keen in completing the project in time. They were technically sound and fast in picking up practical knowledge. But the 60 % was coming and attending only for completing a formality ( majority boys), give their attendance and idle away their time. So whom do you want to blame?

Most of the 40 % later got placed in good companies and when ever they met me they thanked me and they had great praise for that small training that they got and how much it helped them in successfully starting their carrier.

The point I want to impress is a qualification in engineering is only a foundation on which you have to build your practical knowledge. With what you learn in college you can do anything if you want. Now a days no one wants to learn but only want to earn through short cuts. Do not blame the educational system but improve your attitude. Complete an engineering degree in Electrical, Instrumentation , Electronics, Telecommunication etc. etc. and then take up a software job because it pays more. Do you get job satisfaction if you really love the subject that you studied. ? there after you will forget all that you studied in college.
