Re: Shaft Generators/Synchronous Compensator

Im the one who posted this question. Is there any marine electrical engineers who could help me? I'm more familiar with normal landbase generators but now transfering to marine vessels.

When i was on board in one ship, i have notice two seperate generators. 1-with a motor as a prime mover (which I learned later that this is the Synchronous Compensator), 2-which is geared to the shaft of the propeller (Shaft Generator)

During the operation as i observe, (Assuming the Shaft Generator is "running" and in constant speed with no elect load) the Synchronous Compensator will start to "Run" with motor as its prime mover. When it reaches its rated speed, the motor will dis-engage and the operation will transfer through the Shaft generator.

I just want to know how it operates, how it is interconnected to each other?
