ASTM A36 vs. JIS

02/10/2009 9:11 PM

Hello

I have a question regarding clients request.

Basically our client gave us specific spec for welding process, and they want it to be ASTM A36, meantime right now we are using JIS standard ( Japanese). How can I compare which JIS steel matchup to ASTM a36. Client is from America and wants American Standard.

Where can i find information regarding these type of steel. I need to make sure our JIS steels match with their specs..

Thank you

I feel generous / like pushing the rules (copyrights)

You can download the A-36 standard here:

(you don't need to sign-up: simply click on "Request Download Ticket" in the top left corner, wait a couple seconds, then click on "Download")

Wow thanks for that! Appreciate it very much, so hard to find specs unless you pay.

Also regarding this, do you have any information on NDT( Nil Ductility Transformation Temperature)? Astm a36 has a temperature of 20 degrees F.

Thanks again for the file!

No worries (I have since deleted the link though)

What is the intended use of the steel?

hey,

Well right now we are starting a project, making a stretcher for a huge Healthcare company, we are the manufactur. , Currently in Taiwan, they gave us specs for welding process. Our factory has welding machines and we are making sure we can match their specs. We use different Steel, JIS.

Do you have any information on JIS(Documents)? Also any docs on AISI/A2.4 (Standard Symbols for welding, brazing, nondestructive examination

......... uhhhhhh ......... that is kind of pushing it (sharing more info), sorry.

However, you should refer to the applicable building/construction code regarding the nil ductility temperature.

Actually, this is across the line.

I too struggle with the issue of "overpaying" hundreds of $$$$$$ for various industry standards. I do try to get the information for the lowest cost possible.

But, if it is something that I will refer to again and again, I will find a way to bite the bullet and get my employer to pay the cost for the info needed.

IMHO, the first question was over the line but might have been ovelooked as a one time offense. The second and subsequent standards requests are pushing things too far. Cut it out!

I won't ban you. (Besides that's not my job here! ) Go whip yourself with a wet noodles 10 times before coming back to post and consider your sin forgiven. At least by me.

Seriously, we're all in this together to help each other out. Small pieces of information from standards is OK, but I would hate for someone to try to close this site down because of too much "Copyright infringement".
