Engine Test Beds - Sensors Used

02/20/2009 10:05 AM

My company manufacturers sensors (level, flow, pressure). We are trying to do a market analysis of the engine test bed industry. As a first pass I would like to get a feel for the sensors that are used on engine test beds. Also any market information regarding sensor use in test beds would be much appreciated

Oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, O2, vacuum (MAP), knock and ignition timing are probably the most universal sensors. If testing a fuel injected engine, you can probably tack on idle air control (IAC), throttle position (TPS), mass air flow, and injector timing. Of course, then theres the sensors associated with the dyno the engine is likely attached to.
