Barrier Terminal Block 1000V, 10A? do they exist ?

11/06/2006 9:59 PM

Hello,

I am having a tough time finding an easy way to connect a 1000V, 10A output of a power supply. I would like to use a simple screw type terminal block but everyone I've found so far that seems suitable is rated for 600V max.

It seems that 600V is the upper limit for v-ratings (unless you jump to 10's of kV.)

Can anyone suggest any alternatives?

Standard terminals from Cabur (Italy) are rated to 800V. What's the application?

The voltage rating is applicable when the terminals are mounted side-by-side and the wall thickness of one of the terminals is providing the insulation between it and another. I would suggest using standard 800V or 600V terminals separated from each other by standard terminal barrier partitions to give additional creepage and clearances within your enclosure. Either that or go to specialised terminals.

The power supply is to be used in vacuum plasma sputtering applications. Your suggestion of using 600V-800V terminals is interesting ... I'm guessing you mean place single screw terminals on FR4 printed circuit board and make the space between them the distance needed to handle 1000V.

Thanks, I now have an option, but I really would like a connector or terminal strip that is rated for 1000V 10A.

Suggest Weidmuller (Klippon), they have range of feed-through and connector blocks for 1000v AC and DC

Standard 600VRMS rated up to 40Amps. Go for the 40A parts, they're physically BIG and you can easily remove the metalwork from every second terminal to double the spacing, increase the flash distance. Fix the whole strip down with long nylon bolts and 50mm wide FR4 strip above & below. Better to use a proper plug in bulkhead connector though, 10kW of HVDC just ain't safe for open connectors.

I think Marathon makes a barrier strip that you can use. They may go by the brand name "Kulka".
