Hi, It is interesting work shop, I would recomend to you to take in consideration the energy to be developed just in case the tank oil is going to be involve in a fire, the energy will depend in tank dimension, there are formula to evaluate that, I mean you should evaluate the thermic radiation that people working at dock is going to be exposed, More over, keep in mind that in the dock will be vessel taking load/unloading and it is no going to be easy to get the vessel to move as quickly as the fire can develop. Beside this consideration you have to take in consideration the wind direction.

Have nice day, best regards

API may have some rules on this in their Recommended Practices section. (RPs) They have rules on minimum spacing and tank berms, etc.

With the exception of PetroPower, this is the blind leading the blind.

Guys, don't place your "cruid oil storage tanks" based on information from strangers.

In the event of fire, to perform unloading operations you shall have to operate the valves. However, due to radiant heat, it may not be feasible to gain access to the valve and hence the valve should be fitted with a firesafe remote operating actuator. Such Firesafe actuation devices are available indeginously.

make shure you storage tanks are double wall and are U.L. 142 or U.L.80.
listed and approved are they d.o.t. aproved like the ones at liftandlube.com http://www.liftandlube.com/Storage_Tanks_s/8.htm

how are you going to transfer the oil? if you are using a piston pump such as a fireball http://www.liftandlube.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=piston+pump and if your daily pumping is more than 2000 gallons a day contact me i can set you up with a new system using a recirculating method of driving the pump, that based on 5000 gallons a day will save you over $50,000 a year in energy costs. the system is less than $20,000 so it pays for it self in <6 months newmanshopmanager@bellsouth.net
