Steam Turbogenerators as Synchronous Compensators

02/24/2009 5:29 AM

We have 3 steam turbogenerators 16000 KVA each that are not running now. We project to transformer them to synchronous compensators to generate KVARS and improve the voltage of the national network. So the plan is :

1. To remove the steam turbines,

2. To start the generator as asynchronous motors or by another prime mover,

2. To modernize the excitation systems and the electrical protections,

Do someone has an experience in this kind of project?

Please answer in easy English. Thanks

Many years ago this was done at Swanbank 'A' power station. I think they converted two 60MW units over to synchronous compensator's, the station had 6 units in total. If you contact them they may be able to help you. 'A' power station has now been pulled down but 'B' station is still running and and the staff is still there.

Regards JD.

Thank you very much JD.

How can I contact Swanbank? In their website there is any email address of the Swanbank power station. Would you like to help me again?

Thanks
