Static & dynamic balancing

03/07/2009 3:56 AM

Hi engineers

I want to fabricate a fan hub with 6mm plate and OD 600mm dia & ID 100mm. As per drawing it required Dynamic balancing. Now my question is what is STatic & Dynamic balancing . If there is any machine manufacturer in india.

The static balancing is when the component or the assembly is balanced along one plane (the Center of gravity line - called the Inertial or Principle Inertia Axis is shifted from the axis of rotation in one side)

This is easily done by keeping the shaft supported along two horizontal knife edges (we do) or two bearings. As you let the shaft rest, it rotates and the heaviest portion move down wards. Now you grind off some material from this side /add to other side. and re-test. Continue till the un=balance is removed.

In dynamic unbalance the shaft is rotated along its axis at specified speed and the unbalance is measured by the thrust on the bearings/ sensors. This is a multiplaner balancing.

If the shaft has the center shifted on one edge and it is oppositeway shifted in other edge, the static unbalance will be zero. But not the dynamic one.

The speed and acceptable un-balance will be provided in your spec (speed and grade) or in the applicable standards.

There are quite a few balancing machine manufacturers in India, google and find out.
