Meet Roborior

06/01/2005 2:00 PM

Two Japanese companies have teamed up to develop Roborior, a robot that functions as a virtual guard dog. Roborior may not look like Fido, but he won't chew up your favorite pair of shoes either. Still, with a sticker price of $2,600, it's cheaper to buy a new pair of sneakers.

Fido

I chose this over fido, he hasn't learned to use the speed dial on the cellphone I bought for him yet. Personally I rather have the robot call the police than me.

I don't know about that... I'm not a dog owner, but I'll bet ol' Fido costs more than $2600 over 5 years.

We were looking at buying a puppy a few months ago and they were in the $1,000 price range. Add food and vets and that's a lot of money. Of course you can't play with or bond with a robot (yet). Also I'm sure that a dog will be around a lot longer than the robot, what gadget or technology have you had in your house for 10-15 years?

I would have little remorse euthanizing a robot when it started having bowel and bladder issues...

I'd rather have...

...a home security system and a golden retriever.
