what diagnostic programme is use to scan these vehicles

If this vehicle is in the U.S.A. then any OBD II scanner can read the codes. Anything in the U.S.A. after 1996 is supposed to be OBD II complaint. Of course, Chrysler stopped doing that in 2005 and has gotten away with it.

According to this post all that is wrong with your Duramax is the FUEL CAP.

Many of the chain store auto parts stores will read the stored trouble codes for free. If you let us know what the codes are, we will try to help you. There are some very sharp minds here.
