Generator Rotor Earth Fault

The Generator is tripped with rotor earthfault. What are the possible causes?.

DEAR,

1. CHECK FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF REVERSE POWER. WINDING MAY BE BURNT/CUT IN THE ROTOR.

2. OVER LOAD ... MAY BE FREQUENT VERY HIGH IN RUSH CURRENTS DURING START CYCLE OF THE EQUIPMENT.

3. IF THE DG IS OLD, HAVE YOU CARRIED OUT A PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ... VARNISHING BY CLASS H INSULATION ... MEGGER VALUE OF INSULATION OF WINDING ?

Is there any possibility of damaging cable from excitor transformer to exciter panel ???.
