Does This Person Exist?

03/18/2009 2:57 PM

I have a client located near Philadelphia, PA who informed me he is looking for someone with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or Weld Engineering
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel Codes & AWS(CWI)
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certified (SSBB)

Does this person exist? My client is not in desperate need, but if I was to come across someone with these qualifications, he would want to speak with them.

Look forward to your input!

Thanks!

Sounds like a recipe for "Process Manager".

You might find an engineer that "use" to be a CWI. The CWI is generally a quality function and now days would be required to be a certified welder as well so you're looking at an active welder. So you're looking at an engineer that probably doesn't have current engineering experience working as a certified welder holding a Certified Weld Inspector card. The Black Belt adds a whole new dimension. Good Luck in the hunt.

Good thing your client isn't desperate. Because he'd better be patient.

If you were to remove the "Six Sigma" requirements, I would have said that you were looking for a Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector.

These sorts live in companies that are big on Six Sigma. Dow and GE would both have people with these qualifications..

It looks like you are looking for a Welding Engineer. Email hussen.2@osu.edu . You will be in contact with Pam Hussen who is the academic advisor for the Welding Engineering Program at The Ohio State University. She is in contact with both current students who are in classes and alumni who are out in the work force through an email system. I will be starting my senior year this year and you can contact me if you have any questions.

To answer your question, yes this person does exist at least with your first two requirements the third might have to be taught. Good luck.

I just retired after 40+ years in the work force. I am not bored yet.

My old group wanted me to come back and help them install missile defense systems around the major cities of Europe. I told them they couldn't afford me. ;)

Maybe in 6 months I will feel like doing something. I much prefer working in the field vs. "The Office". I don't need a second career, prefer short term (3 month) jobs.

Thanks
