Hi dinakarj, DIN 1025 Part 2 IPB 550 corresponds to hot rolled Steel sections for special purposes. Basic steels are cast as killed steel. There is no straight equivalent in IS. These are un-alloyed steel similar to St 37-2 with carbon per cent = 0.17 max., Mn = 0.4 to 1.40 %, P & S = 0.50 max & Tensile Strength = 340- 470 N / mm 2. You may now ask Mukand or Issal or Sunflag or Usha Martin or Vardhman Steel mill to develop your requirements. Hope this helps you. Rangasamy

Hi dinakarj, DIN 1025- Part 2 IPB 550 material is good to fabricate with IS 2062 & IS 8500 since both these two specifications also come under the category of low carbon steel only. However, before giving green signal for bulk or series production, please ask your customer to try out on a smaller lot. Good Luck. Rangasamy

Hi dinakarj, Based on application or the end use, the Designer chooses the material. If you want to know the reasons, you have to only ask your customer. I suggest that you may arrange to get a copy of IS standard which will clear your doubts. Rangasamy
