It gets electricity as input, rotates at fixed speed depending on pole pair and the input power frequency, converts the electrical energy into mechanical energy (depending on the efficiency)

Any electrical engg book on rotating machines will give this in addition to a no.of sites.Only we have to work to understand how it works rather than trying to get easy info.
