ASTM Equivalent to DIN Standard

03/24/2009 4:31 AM

Since DIN 1025-Part-2 IPB-550 cannot be manufactured in India,my customer is suggesting to manufacture it with Fe 410 WB IS 2062(Plate) Quantity 1 for web and FE 540B IS 8500 Quantity 2 for flange. Can anyone give your opinion on this?

Thanks,

Dinakar.J

Hi dinakarj, Please refer to Indian Standard Specifications- IS : 432-1966 ( Part 1 ) under the heading " Mild Steel & Medium Tensile Steel Bars " Fe 410 " is Mild Steel Grade-II Material having Tensile strength 410 N/mm2 & equal to St.42.0 ." Fe 540 " is Medium Tensile Steel having TS 540 N/mm2. & equal to St.55 HTw. Perhaps your Customer's application dictates use of different strengths for Plate & flange. Please remember CUSTOMER IS THE KING. If you want his business, give him what he wants. Hope this clarifies your doubts. Good Luck. Rangasamy

Hi Rangaswamy,

Thank you very much sir,but i would like to clarify that i am the client for him,we are supplying drawings for him received from germany.According to DIN 1025-Part-2 the material to be used is St 37.2 my customer is doing re-engineering sir.Its Tensile strength can be from 340-470 N/mm2.Is it specifically necessary for giving more strength for web.Since this is mainly used for support.Does cost play an important role in deciding it?????

Hi dinakarj, Basically you are talking about Mild Steel. Cost difference is very marginal in this group of mild steel materials. Web or plate you have to follow simple rule to follow Customers Spec. only. If you want to change, you must show evidence or test results proving your point & obtain prior approval from the CUSTOMER. Hi dinakarj. The equivalent IS Standard Din 1025 Part 2 IS 226- 1975 MILD STEEL with chemical composition- per cent : C max = 0.25, Cr = 0.20 / 0.35, S,P Max = 0.055 & Tensile Strength = 410 to 530 N/mm2. Please refer the matter to Tata Steel & to send your RFQ log on to www.tatasteel.com. Good Luck !!! Rangasamy
