Looks to be the favourite topic here.

How to calculate weight

There are two methods

a) You know the pipe OD (by the size) , thickness (by the schedule), calculate cross-section area (by mathematics) , multiply by length and density (mathematics) and you get the weight. Provided you know all the above.

b) Go to the website of any supplier and the weight/ft is given (at least in most of them)

c) use site http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/pipe-weight-calculation-d_745.html

d) use http://www.jdfields.com/en/calculator

e) http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Business/Misc__Calculators/Steel_Weight_Calculator.html

Hope these many will suffice.

BTW: was it such a difficult calculation ? the time taken to post it would have been more than the time taken to calculate.

I keep some small Excell files for doing it with different shapes.

Hello,

You are a very good, consistent resource for college students and it may just be the leg-up that they need to get that paper done.

When they reflect on your help in years to come, they make come about to help the next budding engineer. So it may go and so it may go!

There is also a wealth of experience for all who care to read your answers.

You got a GA from me. Keep up the mentoring and Good Luck.

Best regards
