HDPE Pipes - Bedding Requirements

04/01/2009 2:47 AM

hi to everyone,

newby here.

I would like to confirm some idea regarding HDPE pipe bedding. The scenario is that I have pipe to be lay between two valve pit at a distance of 100m. Level as below:

Pit 1: top level: +51m, pipe invert level:+50m

Pit 2: top level: +50m, pipe invert level:+49m

Is it possible that I can connect them without vertical transition level? Meaning, not to use fittings(normally two by 90deg) to have same invert level entry on the two pits(ex.both will have invert level at 49m). Is HDPE pipe tends to bend vertically, allowing radius at the center?

any inputs is highly appreciated.

thanks in advance.

So, this pipe is on a gradient of 1 in 100, right?

From the info provided, there's no need for fittings, just lay the pipe under required slope, possibly with use of rocker pipes on the exit of starting chamber and on the entry of the ending chamber. Although HDPE pipes are flexible it may be a good idea to keep them straight as much as possible with deflection only in joints (e.g. flexible couplings at rocker pipes). Bedding type depends on the client requirements, specs and surrounding soil.

Not enough information. Why do you want both inverts to be the same? You can have the HDPE "welded" with no joints, and just use the manufacturers spec on bedding. Make sure the installer does a good job withteh bedding installation, and there will be no problems.

The laying of HDPE with almost straight profile with a slope is more than sufficient for the purpose. i dont think any bends are required.

Again, are you describing 1m in 100m grade?

What size is the pipe? (Diameter and SDR)

Are you burying the pipe at 1m?

"Pit 1: top level: +51m, pipe invert level:+50m"

"Pit 2: top level: +50m, pipe invert level:+49m"

Will you be using electric couplings or fusion equipment?

Just a little more!
