Spineless Hedgehog

04/03/2009 4:08 AM

Poor Spud the hedgehog...he's got no spines.
There must be an engineering link somewhere here? (Bio Med?)
See him on this link.

(Don't let Kris see the bit about the bald squirrel called smoothie)

The bit that worries me in Del's link is ;

"Funnily enough we've got a bald squirrel in too.

'We call him Smoothie, and we don't know what his problem is either.'

Staff believe he is still able to grow spines after one was found under the skin - but had to be removed."

I don't know what the hell kind of genetic madness is going on there, but Squirrels with spines !?!?!? Smoothie only had one, and they removed it. I knew hiding as Guest was a good idea -they're not having mine !

My formatting has gone all big-lettery, and I'm beginning to enjoy it . Drat - the editor box has taken the big letters out

G'day gals, guys & gurus,

That's one ugly hedgehog!

My wife is a hairdresser and has been asked to investigate alopecia in an otherwise well patient. Ultimately it turned out to be heavy metal poisoning that was caused by the lead in paint that was used on the walls of the house.

For poor old Spud it might be worth looking a heavy metal traces as this could be the problem. It could also be associated with exposure to corticosteroids.

Regards, masu

If you could breed them you'd make a fortune selling them to movie stars.

It looks worse than puberty -

"A baby hedgehog's first set of spines is soft and white. The spines fall out in the first two to three days of life. The next set of spines is darker and harder. After about two weeks these spines begin to fall out. Then a third, permanent set grows in. About the same time, the baby hedgehog's eyes and ears open"

Apparently he's getting baths, and a baby-oil massage.

Kiwis (!) think it could be mange.
