COAL PROPERTY

04/04/2009 1:42 AM

Dear all

Does any body know the angle of repose of coal with 50 mm maximum size? This parameter will be used to design the dome structure which can cover 40.000 Ton coal in storage.

Other properties of coal (typical) to be stored :

a. Coal Caloric Value : 5235 kCal/ kg

b. Total moisture : 35 %

c. Inherent moisture :18 %

d. ash content :1.6 %

e. Sulfur : 0.09 %

f. Volatile matters : 40.2 %

g. HGI : 46 %

h. Size ( 0 - 50 mm) : 96 %

Thank you all

As it is an easily measured property, I would suggest making a few quick tests on an actual sample rather than trying to estimate it. Also, at those high moisture content levels you may find that compaction of the finest sizes in the coal will tend to clump making any estimate inaccurate.

30-40 degrees.

It is easily measurable,so why not do that as suggested in post 1

Remember to ventilate the coal, if you don't you may lose it. Are you planning to use a covered, wedge-shaped pile? Typical angle of repose for coal is between 35 and 60 degrees. It is very specific to the actual coal, with moisture content and fines being a big concern. It is best to stack the actual product once or twice in smaller piles to see whatthe angle works out to be, and then lessen it a bit for safety.
