Quite simply the control of the grate temperature is critical, you will find there is a tendency for slag to form as the ash melts readily then solidifies and then gums up the works. Grate temperature control possibly by means of flue gas recirculation is a possibility.But you will need to monitor the temperaure by some means of optical pyrometer. You will readily appreciate that you have changing conditions within the bed as fuel MC alters and loads change.Many biomass combustors are favouring a plate type moving floor with the fuel entry at the rear and ash discharge to the front with a large brick arch to reflect radiant heat back down on to the approach fuel mass.
