Diesel Development Cleans Air

11/17/2006 10:18 AM

Improvements in engine design and modern electronics have eliminated most noise and cleaned the exhaust in Diesel-powered cars and trucks, according to a Newsday.com article. A 3.0-liter, V-6 diesel engine features four valves per cylinder, and sprays fuel directly into the center of the combustion chamber. Do you want to drive Green?

The vehicle in the picture, an E320 BluTec Mercedes Benz, is a bit pricy. Can diesel fans who "want to drive Green" afford to do so?

Three cheers for Mercedes but I believe there are many automakers that can do this but the issue is these engines require urea to be injected into the fuel to allow the engines to meet the emissions requirements. The problem is the automakers haven't found a way to assure that urea is constantly used. If the urea isn't used the engine doesn't meet the emissions standards. These cars won't be approved for the US market until this issue is addressed.
