plastic spur gears

04/13/2009 8:42 PM

Hi,

Can anyone suggest where I might go to get hold of medium quantities (200-300) small nylon gears (in Australia). I have found http://www.marswell.com/Product_spur.htm for instance, but they are in the $5 to $7 *each* price range.

I am looking for the sort of thing that you find in cheap alarm clocks and children's toys. I am assuming that if the alarm clock costs $5 and there are 20 gears inside it, there must be a way to get hold of them reasonably cheaply.

Can anyone direct me anywhere?

Cheers,

Robert

Hello,

If you know exactly what the dims are, I may be able to hook you up.

Have you tried RC cars suppliers etc on line?

I have an Australian buddy ,living here but with all kinds of contacts in Australia who may be able to help.

Let me know

Thanks 2tinker,

I'm after something about 10mm diameter - and quite slim - ie around 1mm thick would be good. All identical to intermesh with each other - say 20-30 teeth but this isn't critical. I could probably get away with min 100 of them, but a few more would be good.

The RC car gears are ok, but again they are expensive. Perhaps it's because they are nylon or whatever and quite strong. I just need the basic plastic ones - any kids' toy friction drive car or cheap alarm clock is full of them. Technical lego gears are a good example (except a little bit thick and again expensive.)

Please do let me know if your buddy has any leads!

Thanks again,

Robert
