Dear Guest,

Software is not replacement for imagination, nor it is Magic Wand.......

Planing has three steps:

1st. Determine what You want to be result of project and who would be users (if it is not just Academic project that need not be useful or economically usable per se).

2nd. Study known ways to achieve this result. When You choose one of ways to do it, or perhaps have better idea crystallized during this study (but I recommend to leave experimenting for later time if You can do it properly in already tried and proven technology) copy this process as part of Your plan.

3rd. From chosen process determine raw materials, subassemblies or assemblies that would be needed and team of specialists if necessary, make list and search for providers from which to buy (or request) such ingredients.

Therefore, assembling the team and collecting materials is first step and following technology is next.

What remains is testing if thing work properly, and if and when it does, Your project is finished, so all that is left is to hand it over officially........

Software could be useful if any kind of calculations on great scale is necessary or You would want to make it optimal, or for testing and simulation before and after it is done.

For planing, even pencil and paper would do nicely........:-)

Primavera software is not easily mastered because the steps are not necessarily intuitive. It is somewhat like learning a new language. I recommend taking a class (minimum 3 days, 1 week is better). Microsoft project is a little easier, but not as thorough. Good Luck

well, since you have been tasked as a planning engineer, we assume you are a planner and just only needs how to start a project using primavera, literally.

you could always go to New and start from there. there is also an existing project template in primavera which you only need to modify, the parameters of which should clearly reflect yours.
