Calculating Short Circuit Current

How do we calculate short circuit current for electrical power system to size IC ratings of equipment from single line diagram with known lengths of circuits. Please have me references, if you know, to follow. Suggest

I found that a Short Circuit Study was one of the most demanding aspects of designing the electrical distribution for a motor control center (MCC). Years ago, I had available to me a Teltronix computer that its sole purpose was to perform this task. I always backed up the computer's results by doing the study by hand. I found it very rewarding. It was similar to performing Kirkoff's Law on complex circuits. It was actually a bit of a game to correctly arrive at a solution and verifying the results by re-working the study in reverse. If you like Kirkoff's Law, you will love a SSS.
