bus duct/cable aspects of using

04/23/2009 2:42 AM

i just want to know when bus ducts are used instead of cable.............(suppose for power flow from trafo to breaker)........is there any consideration of voltage grade.............

1. no change in voltage

2.resistance is minimum so losses are less.

3.cable ducts heating capacity is more than cable so losses are minimised.

4. over all power factor improved.

5.maintance can be done easily or partwise.

6.longlife security than cables.

There are a lot of considerations. If you want to just run power from point a to point b, and you have a limited amount of space, and... if the circuit is large enough to require pararallel runs of cables, then bus ducts can help you get thru tight spaces. If you want to be able to distribute power along the way from point a to point b, then plug-in bus ducts work best of all. You can tap off at multiple locations to get power for each device and save multiple branch circuits running from the panel. Bus Duct usually does better on some aspects of voltage drop over minimum cable in conduit. Only real drawback is the need for continued maintenance to keep the bus bars bolted tight, otherwise you can have a whole bunch of problems.

Laying cables to loads at various locations in any building ensures security of supply due to the fact that if one cable develops a fault/tripping only one section of the building will be in dark while if fed by busduct with tap-offs interruption/fault/tripping will put the entire building in dark.
