What is Earthing Transformer

What is Earthing transformer. In our substation we have star\delta main transformer.

and also provided with earthing transformer in secondary of main transformer. Please tell me why it is used. How it protects from faults

The Delta side of the transformer doesn't have the neutral. If you need the neutral in the Delta side of a transformer, you need to use the Earthing (or Grounding) transformer. It is basically a zigzag transformer. Please see the link to get some more information:

As you have,no neutral point in your sec. side,earthing trafo. can provide you artificial neutral for single line to ground fault protection.Some system also allow NGR to reduce the Single line to groung fault current.
