composite valve

04/24/2009 8:33 AM

i need to design a composite valve. I have chosen UHMW for the material. What calculations do I need to use to ensure a proper composites design? I need the valve to be rated at 600 psi.

Why design? - just buy an off-the-shelf valve.

You do the same calculations as you'd do for any material. Except that when yo specify a composite material, you'd forget about isotropic concepts and design your material to be built with oriented properties. Doesn't really matter how much pressure you'll put in, but the stress level you'll submit your material to (as always). Is it that, or you are in doubt on how to calculate the material properties?
