Selecting Horizontal or Vertical Turbines for Hydro Apps

There are many "turbine driven generator" outfits around thr world. If you could mention the power level sought along with the head and volume of this "source" fluid, it would be easier to create helpful recomendations.

I work at a hydro-electric project that has both types of turbines. We chose horizontal units for our second powerhouse as they seem to be more efficient for a low head dam, our gross head is often less then 40 feet. Also they have proven to have less impact on the downstream migration of salmon.
