When oil and water are mixed, free water settles down at the bottom when the mixture is kept undisturbed for a long period. How do you measure the quantity of such free water? I am told that some typical past is available which is applied on the measuring rod and when this rod is dipped into the barrel, the length of the patch which comes in contact with water turns into a different colour and paste is not affected by oil so that much patch which comes in contact with Oil do not change colour. has any one used such paste ? What is the name and composition ? Normally where will it be available?
This is the problem of mixing of water and Oil in Hydraulic / Lubricating Systems.
