Need comment on current flow of UPS for different cases

04/26/2009 1:57 PM

I have designed the current flow of a 40KVA basic UPS system. The design is based on

The load required - 40KVA at 240V, 60 Hz for 2 Hours.

The available supply - 480V, 60Hz (line to line).

Lowest Battery Discharge level - 25%

DC Voltage level - 125V

The redundant Charger, Bypass Transformer, Static transfer switch, Maintenance switch etc. are not shown in detail in this diagram.

I would like you to provide your valuable comment on this. Once I get your input, I will start my cable selection based on the current values of Case 3. This design reflects some prior recent discussions on UPS.

Note: The bold line indicates the current flow path.

Hello msamad,

In reviewing you design, I wondered if you made a common mistake about battery capacity. So, I typed 'battery' in the search all of CR4 box and came up with this most excellent link http://cr4.globalspec.com/comment/40249 that you may wish to read.

I found some of the other hits about batteries very interesting. I am always amazed at the wealth of information available on CR4. I have picked up a lot of useful information and I enjoy looking at the various solutions to problems from such creative people.

Good luck with your design!
