LOW VOLTAGE

04/27/2009 8:43 AM

My dear engrs, I've problem of low voltage from public power supply. meanwhile the factory is on 33KV. we have tapped set our transformer to the maximum, thought, the problem is from transmission station. As we all know the effect of low voltage on induction motor. Is there anything I can do to improve the overall supply. Our average demand is about 1200KVA.

Thanks

Clement from Nigeria.

1. what size is your transformer

2. what is your voltage reading at peak load and at light load.

3. what is your power factor

4. are you billed on a kva demand.

You may have to install a regulator

1) Check the permissible voltage variation of your supply company. If that is beyond the permissible limits then you can complaint them officially.

2) After discussing with your supply company you can change the tapping of your transformer appropiately as per the requirement.
