Slurry Lines and Angled Connections

04/28/2009 12:38 AM

For lines (Angle between Branch & Header is not right angle) with Bauxite/Hydrate as slurry, we are using Stub-in connection with Pad instead of Reducing Tee so as to provide ease in fabrication.

Is this feasible technically or we have to provide some extra arrangement….

Pl. advice

Ideally you should go with an already manufactured lateral tee, or a true-Y depending on your needs.

Or depending on your pipe sizes, how about a latrolet from Bonney Forge, or an "anvilet"; with built-in/integral reinforcement (however, you must keep in mind the abrasiveness of your slurry).

Failing those options, you can refer to ASME B31.3 304.3.3 (definition of ß) which provides rules for your reinforced stub-in connection.

(watch your SIF's for stress analysis )
