Coolants, Solar Heat, and Power Generation

11/22/2006 5:19 AM

hi

i'm looking for any information about a system of power generation using a fridge coolant with low boiling point in combination with a solar heat source to produce steam pressure driving a turbine/generator unit.

apparently such systems have already been installed in african rural areas to supply off-grid power to households or small communities.

are such power generation systems available as a standard product anywhere ?

In order to do this you must have a heat source, in your case solar, but also a cold sink or some other way to recondense the varop to be reused. Without that, the system only works briefly. In existing refrigerant systems, the recondensing is done with mechanical energy input in the form of a compresser. If you have some other source of this mechanical energy, then it could work fine. Also if you have a way of harnessing enough solar energy to create the vaporization and also have ice or cold water nearby, you might be able to get enough energy in the delta between them.

Do a Google search on Thermal Generators.

There is a special kind of Organic Rankine Cycle, working with water plus ammonia. We don´t have this product but we know how do it. We hope, some day, to manufacturer 10KW solar power plants systems in Brazil. Fernando. Acquaway

For an "outside the box" system, you may find this interesting:

Strikes me this may be an alternative solution in some situations.
