My wife has a 2002 Chevy Malibu, bought used in 2004. There have been recurring problems with the air conditioner recirculate turning off and only running the fan. I did some searching on the net and found that there is a TSB out for this problem. I have never dealt with something like this...it is not an official recall, but it is a known problem for this make/model/year of car. Is this something that is fixed by a dealership at Chevrolet's cost, or is it our cost (the car is out of warranty a few years..). If it is a known defect from the factory on some cars, wouldn't Chevy be responsible? (No, I have not talked to a dealership yet; I just found this information last night).
As a side note, we did not receive any sort of notification that there were any service bulletins, how are owners normally contacted, or is it an owners responsibility to try to find these TSBs?
