2000 Ford Escort ZX2 - Trouble Code

05/06/2009 1:41 AM

I have a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 model with automatic transmission. Last service was this year with about 75,000 miles.

My car began to rev high then low at certain speed. Check with reader, which gave code of P0715-Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circut Malfunction. I replaced the speed sensor, which was located on top of the Tran, behind the engine.

Erased the code, but trouble still continues. Same code reappeared and the car revs high again. Any ideas of what else could be wrong?

Example1: traveling speed of 50 mph @ 2500 RPM's. The RPM's jump up to 3500 then back down to 2500. The car does not speed up, nor do I accelerate.

Example 2: from stopped position, car accelerates up to 50 mph and the RPM's rise and remain at 3500 without dropping down.

I has a quick browse around the web and you should / could have two identical sensors the one that you have replaced ...input turbine speed... and another on the trans.
Swap them over and the error code should change to P0720 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction ...this will at least tell you if it's a sensor fault rather than wiring or a module.

I had a similar problem with my ford and it was a ground on the Tac that was the real problem. It would show most of the time the right RPM and then it would show a different RPM at the same speed next time. The ground finally failed and the tac dropped to 0. You can try this hitting the top of your dash when it shows the wrong RPM and it will drop to the right RPM. This does not alays work but it did 50% of the time with mine. Good luck.
