Rubber Help

11/22/2006 11:50 PM

I utilize a rubber material (similar to a bicycle tire tube) for an expansion assembly that I utilize. The rubber tube is attached to 2" dia. plastic ABS piping via excellent quality duct tape. The rubber tube and the duct tape presently are pulled over the outside of the piping to secure it in place.

Due to wear and tear, the rubber tube has to be changed and replaced - where can I find a different rubber tube that stands up the same as a light bicycle like rubber?

And what can I use to secure the rubber in place?

What the heck are you making??

If you find a good quality rubber and keep it covered from UV it will last...Use sandpaper to roughen the PVC tube and zip ties or hose clamps to secure it.....Duct tape is for race cars...lol.

I should have identifed that the finished area has to be as smooth as possible - clamps don't work.

Rather than duct tape to hold the rubber in place I would suggest using heat shrink tube. They come in various thicknesses and grades and you can get them with glue on the inside that is activated by the heat when you shrink them on.

EPDM rubber(available in sheets) is oxidation resistant. It is used on roofs, and the door seals on cars. I don't know if it available in tubes.
