There are are a number of ways to sense liquid flow in hematology and other micro fluidic devices. A lot depends on the exact hematology analysis process. Some devices will actually count the cells as the pass in front of the detector one by one. Another devices include MEMS-based mass flow sensors that use the Coriolis effect. The key is to use a device that will not cause damage to the individual cells.
