UL/CSA/ETL

05/18/2009 5:32 PM

As a manufacturer, do I need to have UL/CSA/ETL listings for 24v thermostats sold into the North American market? Is ETL a comprehensive alternative to UL/CSA?

Is ETL covered under Intertek's MRA? Who are you planning to sell the thermostats to?

Thanks. Intertek offers ETL, but I am not sure what MRA is. I am selling to OEM and HVAC control system contractors

MRA = mutual reciprocity agreement

Have you asked your customers what they need? When I made UL approved instruments, lots of times I was willing to pay more for a UL approved component - not required, just a lot easier.

Thanks again. I have found that most customers or prospects do not ask about UL for 24v products, however, a very large OEM prospect recently specified UL for our low voltage room temperature controller.
