1992 Honda Accord - Brake Problems

05/19/2009 5:38 PM

I have a 1992 honda accord. After the master cylinder was changed the problems started. I will drive for 2-5 miles and the brakes pressurize on their own and stop the car. I had the power brake booster changed as recommended by several people on here. This didnt fix the problem!!

I need help!!! This problem is costing me alot. Please help. The car has front and rear disc brakes. The front wheels get really hot after driving.

Any intelligent ideas???

"After the master cylinder was changed the problems started""

First question I would ask... Who performed the work?

If the work was performed in a shop, Take it back to that shop and tell them what the deal is.

If the work was performed in someone's driveway, or backyard... Well, now you know not to have them do anymore work for you.

If you did the work yourself... well, thats a different story, and I'm sure you've already kicked yourself a few times for it.

"Any intelligent ideas???"

Yes, stop driving it.

Check that the brakes are properly bled.

Check that the front calipers are not seized (they probably are and your rotors are probably annealed and shot).

Recheck your work.

If you still can't see what is obviously wrong, then it is time to employ a competent mechanic to fix the problem. Brakes are safety equipment, so don't mess around if you are not 100% sure of your self.

did you replace the vacume booster check valve? to check it remove from bake booster and vacume line. if you can blow air through it replace it. Next cause would be bad proportion valve.

Dear

Your main problem that you are too much worries, like your problem needs some patience; also you have to follow what we called faults tracking step by step.

I didn't advise you to change brake booster. but I guide you for a simple way to check booster function , I'm really astonished , did you apply this simple test to assure that you have a real problem in booster , actually I'm in doubt . if you run this test you might not need to change booster. You should know that your car not under our hands, so we gave different suggestions according to practical experience for each one, anyhow according to your message, you had already changed both of brake boosted and master cylinder while your problem is still exist .

I will not add any new suggestions but I will ask you to reply clearly for some important questions asked by other members without any reply from your side.

Your answer for all questions is very important to know whether our prediction was right or not. Also we can skip to another one

1 - Are brake pedal has a free displacement to move before you feel braking action?

2 - press brake pedal 2 to 3 times and release, are brake pedal return back soon to same original position or not?

3- if not , are there any kind of fouling for brake pedal like floor carpet , bend pedal arm, friction with any adjacent body , broken pedal spring or it's not return back but don't know why.

4- Are you recently change front brake pads?

5 - Are car slow down and stop without any previous press for brake pedal or brake not released after first braking action?

5 – Lift up both of front wheels, rotate wheels by hand as fast as possible, are it moves free?

6- If yes ask some body help to press brake pedal, after he release, rotate wheels again, are its still free or hard to move

Finally no more suggestion before answering these questions to gave chance for all members to activate their minds and find the right diagnosis

Waiting your answer
