Power Factor Measurement (PF)

11/27/2006 12:25 AM

any body know how to measur powerfactor for a 3 phase circuit just knowing current in three phase (imp:magnitude only) along with voltages and resistence in all phases...

power factor= active power/apparent power

= VI PF/ VI

or

PF = R/Z

I think you would need to either know the impedence characteristics of the load (inductive, capacitive, or resistive), OR be able to measure the phase relationship of the voltage to current in one of the legs to determine the PF...
