GTA4 Errors on New PC

05/23/2009 8:48 AM

Hi, My new pc is finished, but when I try to run GTA4 it comes up with errors such as DD3D80 and RESC10. I have a Phenom 2.3ghz x4 CPU, 500w PSU, Asus EAH3450 G card, which is 512mb (ATI), 2GB RAM. Does anyone know how I could get the game to work? I have looked around a bit, and found that the DD3D80 is a low memory problem. Any ideas? Thanks Bondy111

The previous version ran happily on 1/2 gig of memory, so the memory fault makes me wonder.

Maybe a trip into the bios on startup to ensure the machine "sees" all that RAM?

Hey Bondy,

New PC eh cool, is this a 64-bit system? You may need increase page file size; check to make sure page file at least min-4092 and max-4094 okay.

Is video memory problem see below:

Disable GPU PhysX
- Set pre-rendered frames to 0
- Set to "Single monitor compability mode"

The new system can support 64 bit, but I am only running 32 bit XP pro SP3. I don't really see the need for 64 bit, and I hate vista, even though all my parts are designed for vista. Everything else works great. I have done that to the paging file - It was only on 250mb. I will try in a minute, and get back to you.

64-bit enables the O/S to utilize multiple core technologies and RAM memory in excess of 4GB.

Ah, new error - Now says out of video memory. The game in the options only uses 350 / 512mb of G card memory. Any ideas how to sort this problem?

I can't find that setting to change it on Catalyst control center - Is physx a Nvidia thing? It is on single monitor. I also can't find the pre-rendered frames. Anyone familiar with catalyst control center?

GTA4 is optimized for consoles like PS3 and Xbox 360, which have more CPU power than GPU power. In the PC version, Rockstar failed to redo the architecture of the game, so it still wants more CPU power than GPU power, making the game run slow. Most people don't have 3GHz quad cores so it doesn't run very good and almost no computer can run it on high.

That 64-bit O/S and 4GB + RAM would be stepping stones to helping run this game on your computer eh?

Add one of these AMD Phenom II too:

3.0GHz model #: HDX945FBGIBOX, HDZ940XCGIBOX

3.2GHz model #: HDZ955FBGIBOX

It's not on even half specs - the G card has about 200mb memory still to use on it, but that doesn't explain why the game says it runs out, also why it has given me two blue screens

Due to the architecture of the game it doesn't demand GPU power instead it requires greater CPU.

In short this game needs a 3.0GHz Quad Core processor or PS3 PlayStation. The game is configured to run on PS3 or Xbox.

The recommended specs for it are 1.8GHz dual core, or a Athlon 64 2GHz

Can't return it, unless I can find the receipt and then drive to the other side of Britain. It worked on another pc - 1gig ram, 256 ATI g card, 1.8GHz dual core. Should I try to OC my g card?

No, you'd not gain a thing towards using this game.

Updated DirectX and Updated video driver is paramount to running this game. Also frequent HD defragmentation is advisable 'smart defrag' runs much faster than than MS

You should wait patiently for the fix or soon to be released patch for the problem you are experiencing is also perplexing many others. Rockstar has released a document summing up the bugs that appear in the game and possible suggestions (where applicable) to solve the problems. You can download the document here. Also, the company hinted that a patch might be on the way.

If you are desperate and in need to play the game rent a PS3 and it will display as advertised.

Sounds like maybe you need to increase the video memory size in the registry. Try downloading this program:

OS Memory Low Fix

NOTE: Before you try this, go into regedit and export a copy of the current registry somewhere so you can recover it in case this doesn't work. Here's Microsoft's explanation (good luck with this):

Paged Pool Size

Hello Bondy,

Maybe we over look something. Describe your power supply...

The HD3450 is easily over-clocked to 750MHz. This is done through a very easy to use utility built into the ATI Catalyst 8.8 Control Center.

Brave novices will not be intimidated as there is even an auto mode which slowly increases the speed in 10 MHz increments, tests it, and then goes to the next speed. It takes about 3 minutes. It will crash (as it tells you it will...without damage) on the ram test after a 30 MHz increase, but that is more common. Then you will know the limit of "your" card and set it without fear of screwing something up.

It's now running at 750 MHz GPU clock, and the memory clock at 410 MHz

Why are you using slow memory? Your set up should run twice that speed ya'know what you're doing is creating a bottleneck

If the memory goes higher the colours get distorted and if it goes higher it crashes.

Good.

Let's try a memory test of your RAM, okay.

Go to start, control panel, system and maintenance, administrative tools, memory diagnostics tool. When you see the windows memory diagnostic tool box click the restart now and check for problems option. The box will close and the system will automatically restart.

Once the tool's white on blue screen appears, the standard test with default cache setting will commence. You may with care also use the extended test and employ the default cache but this test may consume vast amounts of time.

I cannot find the memory diagnostic tool. There is only component management, computer management, Data sources, Event viewer, local security policy, Performance and services. I am running XP pro by the way
