Auxiliary Power in 220 kV Switching Station

05/25/2009 5:13 AM

We are putting 220 kV Swithcing Station for tapping Power from Existing 220 kV Line in Loop in Loop Out (LILO) fation. There will be only 1 220 kV SF6 circuit breaker bay with all neccessory 220 kV equipments for metering, protection & Isolation.

We need approx 50 to 100 kVA LT Power for auxiliary Load of Sub station for Battery Charger, lighting, CRP, Isolator etc. Since this switching station is at very remote location, there is no LT Power near by. This station will be un-manned station, hence we can not provide DG also there.

I want to know what are the option to Get LT Power from 220 kV Line without investing for complete bay for Power Trafo for Aux Power.

Can we get power from CVT or PT or any other equipment like this?

What about a genset?

Your load is mainly resistive and you will not supply any motors so starting currents will not be a problem and you can keep the size of the genset to a minimum.

Since this will be mostly unmaneed sub station Genset is not good proposal due to logistic of Diesel etc. There will be genset, but it will run only in emergency.

Getting power supply from PT or CVT will be the same cost to install a small power distribution transformer for your LT usage.

Normal PT have very small current capacity and most of them is for metering usage only.

Are you not using breaker for line in & line lout from existing 220KV line. Can you mail me the single line diagram ? To have a 50KVA auxillary supply from CVT is not possible. As far as i think you will have to bring atleast 11KV or 33KV to have a reliable auxillary supply and put step down transformer in case you do not have 220KV/132/66KV transformer at the switching yard.
