Leading U.S. Toyota Hybrid Proponent Killed in Plane Crash

David Hermance, Executive Engineer for Advanced Technology Vehicles at Toyota's technical center near Los Angeles was killed on Saturday when his experimental aircraft crashed into the Pacific Ocean. Mr. Hermance played a key role in bringing Toyota's hybrid Prius vehicle from Japan to the U.S. Mr. Hermance was married and had two grown children.

Sadly he died on day after we took delivery of our new Prius, the very car he was instrumental in promoting in North America. After only a few days driving it we are enjoying very much the car that he helped bring to us. His efforts are much appreciated. It's a wonderful car.
