BPA definitions corona ring A metal ring attached near the conductor end of a string of insulators at 345 kV and higher voltages to reduce electrical discharges called corona. Shields the hardware and insulators, preventing discharge by lowering potential gradients, thereby reducing loss and radio and TV interference. Also known as grading ring.

Not a hands on electrician but this might help?

Regards JD.
