final year project

i'd like to do a project on some new technologies. could anyone suggest some ideas?

Dunno that there are any new technologies in mechanical engineering. Other than at the microscopic level Carbon nano this and micro that.
How about sustainable engineering, green engineering.
I know it's hard to beat the old designs of stuff made from wood...but maybe a new twist on old technology?
Water wheels fabricated with modern materials/techniques?
Wind powered water pumps?

As Del the Cat suggested, the current state of things call for renewable energies.

How about something that recovers energy for your home? Solar, water drop, rain water recovering with that ols style unpowered water pumps...
