Does anyone know of a dye or colorimetric indicator for the detection of ethylene gas?

What range are you looking to be able to detect? We offer a variety of instruments that will detect ethylene in the % LEL or combustilbe range. If you're looking for a gas detector that will monitor ethylene in the PPM range, how low do you need to detect? Mike Johnson Marketing Manager RKI Instrument, Inc. mike@rkiinstruments.com

Thanks for your reply. Basically, I am not looking for an instrument or meter but would like to approach ethylene detection by colorimetric means. I would like to have a dye or chemistry that would change color in the presence of ethylene, preferably in the 0.5-10.0ppm range. Any thoughts on this approach?

We also can offer you a gas monitor to detect ethylene gas in the Per Cent Lower Explosive Limit range -- corresponding to 0 to 2.70 % V/V in normal atmosphere --

This gasmonitor can give you ALERT and ALARM signals with relay outputs to automatically initiate control / protection

Ethylene vapour is not toxic, but is an asphyxiant if present in excess quantities above the Upper Explosive Limit of 34% V/V in air -- i.e. deprivation of adequate oxygen.

Hope this information is useful

Thanks

This link may have what you need:

Sampler that changes color at different concentration levels, depending on range of sample tube purchased.

There is a technology called photo acoustic infra red that will measure 0 - 100 ppm Ethylene with a detection limit of 2 ppm. If that can help let me know at d1848@fuse.net and I can give you more information.
