Profibus

05/31/2009 6:12 AM

Have a profibus installation where the cable has come from the processor to a module block. All connection to devices has been made by using jumper bars at the module block, rather the daisy chaining to each device. Profi trace shows collisions of data from each device but the system currently works. Will we need to wire the devices correctly with the correct termination resistor? I belive if the problem is not sorted now there will be problems in the future

Hi there,

You will only be asking for trouble later on if you do not sort out your installation now. You might be lucky for the moment, but it might just fall over if you add another node.

goto www.profibus.com and download their user manuals. This will explain the installation rules in greater detail than what could be done here.

You are already getting collisions now, so your turn-around time on the bus is longer than what it should be. Fix it up, and do it now rather than later.

Regards,

Craig
