Looking for DDF Manufacturers for ATC

06/11/2009 3:38 AM

Hi,

I am looking for Digital Direction Finder manufacturers for air traffic control. Any suggestions would be welcome. I already tried to search the net but with little success. Most of the hits are only good for other fields, other frequency ranges, etc.

I know that Rohde-Schwarz makes their own but my bosses also want to ask some other companies. Tough I would be happy with the R&S. The DDF operating now is also from them but it starts to be a bit uncertain and could not be touched or it falls apart after 28 years of operation next to the runaway.

Thanks, but I could do that. The first two are the R&S I mentioned.

The others are not good for us.

Hello Halando,

I assume you want something to do with Radar? If so you should look more closely at the search listed by the guest as further down the page there is this radar related ddt site and manufacturers.

I found this site which lists Manufacturers:

Jane's Air Traffic Control.

Learn about the many aspects of air traffic control operations including airfield ... Plus, the complete list of manufacturers, their products and contact details .... Digital Integrated Logic, Direction-Finder, Discrete Address Beacon ... www.janes.com/articles/indepth/jatc.html

I hope it is of use. Please let me know.

I know my English is not perfect but is it so difficult to understand what I write?

I stated that I know about the Rohde & Schwarz equipments yet you provide a link for it.

I wrote that I did try to search the net yet the first reply is from someone that just typed in the essential words and copy-pasted a google link.

I was waiting for someone, who have some first hand experience with such a device possibly at an airport, to suggest a manufacturer. It would have been so simply! And also I have to mention that I did read the links provided by the search engine and not just the first 3 or 4.

For a good start you can take a look at the R&S devices. Two of them are for ATC. I need something for price/capability comparison but not for myself but for my bosses (as I already mentioned it in my starting post).

What we need is a frequency range between 100 and 200 Mhz, about 1 degree accuracy, LAN connection to insert the measured values into the ATC network and if the device can do it in a standard ATC data format it would be the better for us.

Hello Halando,

your English is fine, no problems there. I am trying to help but you have to word your sentences more gently. With more respect perhaps?

Did you try the 'Janes' site and did they have anything that suited your purpose?

Can you be slightly more focused and give details of exactly what you want rather than a broad outline please?

We cannot give prices but when we know exactly what you need then we can focus down to the sites you want.

BTW, no insult intended! Take care......

Hello,

sorry but it upset me a bit that I got replies with actually no sign of reading my starting post.

I do not ask you to supply every bit of information (like price), I simply asked for company names.

I looked thru the 'Janes' site but did not find what I was looking for. It could be that I missed something so I will take another look if I find the time.

My though was that maybe someone working on the field reads this and can help me without the need to start a search of their own. I do not want to appear as a genius who knows everything but I think I can use google/altavista/etc just as effectively as anybody else.

Hello Halando,

If I had not read your first post I would not have searched for what you asked for. I did search precisely for what you asked and got thousands of replies to my searches.

You may have noticed there is no one other than me on this thread at the moment? That could be because of your attitude, just a thought.

I am not sure what your impression of this site is but, it is one where every single reply posted is from an ordinary working man who happens sometimes to be interested in and sometimes to actually work in the realm you refer to. We are not paid and do it to help and in doing so find friends from others who have the same interests.

The "Jane's" sites are the definitive sites when it comes to ships, aircraft etc. They are very specific.

You also mention about looking again "when I have time". Well, if you are interested enough to ask surely you have enough interest to 'find' the time needed? I do not hear a lot of sincerity coming from you at all.

And, you have still not been specific on the exact type of company you are looking for. You say DDF Manufacturers, but that, as you well know covers a whole lot of stuff!...........

Do you want software, hardware, machines to sit alongside the runways, machines to do other stuff which goes into the proper safe running of an airport, what????
