Help! Download Speed Low?

Hi,

I have Vista SP2 32bit, 945 Intel dual core, 2GB RAM, Realtek RTL8139/810x network card, 2MBs Internet connection. But when I download a program the download panel shows speed between 12KBs - 50KBs?? What I am missing, why so slow to download if connection speed is 2MBs??

Are the network adapter drivers updated and what motherboard does computer have?

Drivers are up to date MB = ELITEGROUP 945GCT-M3 3.0

Internet connection download speed is 2MBs, up load is 256kbps

When have 613 kbps download have 76KBs transfer rate. How can the computer be faster at downloading programs from the Internet?

Are you sure you aren't confusing bits (with a lower case "b") and bytes (with a capital "B")? There are eight bits in a byte.

In your example, 613 kbps is 613 kilobits per second. Divide by 8, you get 76 kilobytes per second or 76 KBps. Which is what you have!

The download speed fluctuates but I understand the the download speed in question is showing at 613 kilobits per second giving a program transfer rate of 76 kilobytes per second, correct.

The speed is suppose to be download at 16000 kilobits per second.

The problem is the ISP service then, thanks.

A tech will be here tomorrow.
