Composition of metal 204

Dear All,

Can anybody furnish the chemical composition of metal 204 and its applications and also whether it can be used instead of SS 316 for the frames for fixing the glass door? Appreciate +ve response.

The only reference i was able to find for a metal with a specification of "204" was the aluminum alloy 204.0 that comes treated for T4 or T6. If its actually aluminum that you need, I'd say that its better to look for something widely used like the 2024, or the 6061 if welding is needed. If you are talking about something like a riveted assembly that must be repaired in the easier way and is not part of any critical system, I'd say that there should not be a problem. Would be posibly lighter... and a little cheaper too, depending on the vendor. Most of bathroom boxes frames and doors around here are made from aluminum.
